My writing was AWAKENED

OKAY I know this was supposed to be an impartial write up but I just couldn’t do it.

In the last few months I have taken to following up on a back burner project. To be a DJ and Events planner for my little Niche of the world. Expanding on the network of friends and people I have met, it has allowed me to explore my Geek side a whole lot more. I’ve started attending art shows. Eating in a little more “Hipster” type places and even checking out live theatre.
I did mention the Geek side of me right? Well there is a little troupe of performers in Vancouver who have really sparked me and sort of pushed me into gear. The Geekenders of Vancouver are this little troupe. I had heard of them before, however living out in the Fraser Valley it has taken a lot to make that mere 40-minute jaunt to the Commercial Drive area of Vancouver.
Last year I ventured. I caught them on Granville Island performing “A Nude Hope”. Mind Blown! WOW Star Wars and Burlesque dancing. The Reeses Peanut Butter cup of Live Stage. I then contacted them and Trixie Hobbitses to find out more. Next thing I know she is performing her trade mark Chewwie at my Birthday Bash! Then I followed her to a Burlesque Super-Villian night and then on to “The Jurrasic Parody”
Now I find myself sitting at a Media Review of “The Force is Shakin” A burlesque parody of “The Force Awakens”

So by this point if you haven’t seen “The Force Awakens” well… This is performance is going to be one great big spoiler alert and you deserve it!
Many of your favourite characters make it to the Stage. From Han - Stephen Blakley and Chewbacca – Trixie Hobbitses, “General” Leia – Effie Alexandra and R2 – Roe Butts. Along with of course the Staples of the new movie. Rey – Fiona Ample, Kylo Ren – Rael Linford, BB-8 – E.T. Extra-Majestical. I could go on. They are all there. I am terribly biased, my favourites are Chewwie and R2 did I mention that yet, if not they are. A new favourite though would have to Fanny Oakley as Captain Phasma. The Maz Kanata character, performed by What Surname is defiantly one you will walk away remembering.
This is most defiantly a show put on by Geeks for Geeks but you don’t have to be one to enjoy this show. The Dancing and singing are well worth the price of admittance. Through out there are several very strong performances.  Effie Alexandra as General Leia Organa being one of them. An amazing dancer and performer.
I don’t want to give to much away and it is so hard for me to do as I write this.
One of the fun things for me tonight was I brought my Wife with me who is not nearly as geeky as I am and to quote her.
“Musical groupings are entertaining due to both the quality of the vocals and their cheeky slams at the Star Wars themes. Knowledge of all of the Star Wars movies is a must in order to fully understand the plethora of inside “geeky” references. For those of us who aren’t so well versed—a quick refresher is a must!”

So if you are looking for something to do on April 15, April 16 or May the Fourth (OF COURSE) I highly recommend checking out The Geekenders at the Rio Theatre. Tickets are selling fast. I have mine for Fridays show. Hope to see you there!

Edited: I made an error in saying Maz Kanata was played by Lyssa Strata when it was in fact What Surname. Sorry for the confusion.
